Mokone post office robbery, Hawks arrest 2 suspects

A sting operation executed by the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team led to the arrest of two suspects in connection with the post office robbery at Ga-Matlala.

Three unknown gunmen went to Mokone Post Office at Ga-Matlala Village outside Polokwane and robbed multiple victims at gunpoint.

They fled the scene with cash and cellphones worth an estimated total value of more than R205 600-00.

A case of business robbery was opened and referred to the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation for further investigations. The Hawks conducted intensive investigation and executed an operation that led to the arrest of the duo at Tembisa in Gauteng Province on 20 December 2021.

The Hawks successfully recovered a large sum of stolen money, one cellphone that was robbed from the victim and a VW Polo vehicle allegedly used in commission of the crime.

Mohale Kobela (34) and Phasha Lala (30) appeared in the Matlala Periodical Court on Thursday, 22 December 2022 facing a charge of business robbery.

The case against the duo was postponed to 29 December 2022 for formal bail application. Meanwhile, the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team are continuing with the probe to ensure that all three suspects are brought to book.
