2 Suspected cattle thieves and police attacked by mob

The Police in Senwabarwana have launched a manhunt for suspects involved in the vigilante incident that took place on Monday, 6 February 2023 at Ga Kobe village.

According to the information, two victims were driving in a Nissan Hardbody transporting cattle to an auction at Baltimore, when they were allegedly stopped by a farmer who demanded authority papers of animal transportation.

He was not satisfied with what was presented to him and apparently the community members from around the area also mobilised as they accused the two of stock theft.

The Police were summoned to the scene and on arrival they found community members who had already surrounded the victims in a vehicle loaded with seven cattle.

The members rescued the two and the angry mob started to attack Police by stoning the SAPS vehicles.

The Police retaliated by firing rubber bullets to disperse the crowd. It was later discovered that the victim’s vehicle was set alight, and the cattle were off loaded before the vehicle was torched.

The Police opened cases of malicious damage to property and theft.

Anyone with valuable information that can assist the Police in the arrest of the suspects to contact Sergeant Mantjana Ramaphoko 072 035 6353 or Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or the nearest Police Station or use MySAPSApp.
