On Tuesday, 7 February 2023, the Port Shepstone based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team arrested a 24-year-old suspect for dealing in endangered plants without a permit.
The members received information about a suspect who was unlawfully trading in cycad plants.
An undercover operation was conducted at Lamontville Township and the suspect was caught red-handed selling the plants.
He was placed under arrest and charged accordingly.
Members seized forty-five cycad plants and he is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on 8 February 2023.
