A man was arrested on 3 May 2023, after DNA linked him to a murder and rape case in December 2014.
Mr Stephans Makhazi (31) was arrested in the neighboring town of Philippolis after he was positively linked through DNA to a murder and rape case.
On 25 December 2014, children discovered the naked body of a 56-year-old woman in the community hall of Bokfontein, Fauresmith. The case was later closed pending the outcome of the DNA tests.
This week, the Fauresmith police received information that Makhazi was linked to the case through DNA. They acted swiftly, traced and arrested him in Philippolis.
Mr Makhazi appeared briefly in the Magistrates Court.
He will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Tuesday 9 April 2023.
