The Free State High Court sentenced the 31-year-old Isaac Pule Maloi for the murder of his ex-girlfriend (32) and her 14-year-old son in May 2022.
The suspect had gained entry into the victim’s house through a window by the door.
He further took a hammer and hit the son of the ex-girlfriend on the head, then proceeded to the ex-girlfriend’s room where he attacked and stabbed the ex-girlfriend several times and later fled the scene.
Both the ex-girlfriend and son were declared dead on the scene.
A thorough investigation led by Detective Constable Masilo Moreki of Viljoenskroon SAPS led to the swift apprehension of the suspect at his hideout.
His first court appearance was on 16 May 2022; he was further denied bail and has been in custody since.
Isaac Pule Maloi was sentenced to 25 years’ and 15 years’ imprisonment for the double murder.
Fezile Dabi District Commissioner, Major General Moses Makubo, has welcomed the sentence and further hoped that this sentence will serve as a deterrent to others who consider emulating the actions of the accused.
