The Free State High Court sentenced Taole Moses Qamakoane (42) to 20 years direct imprisonment for the rape of a 23-year-old female victim.
On Saturday, 26 September 2020, she was leaving a tavern in Zamdela where she allegedly met the suspect for the first time.
The suspect then offered her a lift home. She took up the offer and while on the way, the suspect drove to Sasolburg town instead of the victim’s destination.
He then stopped the vehicle next to Sasolburg Correctional Services. He then jumped to the passenger side, where the victim was sitting and raped her.
After that, he drove to a different location and raped her for the second time.
After the second incident, the suspect drove her to Zamdela. She confided in her friend, who accompanied her to open a case.
The case was transferred to Zamdela Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit for further investigations.
Through a thorough investigation by the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Mokhethi Makhooe, the suspect was successfully convicted.
