On Thursday 29 June 2023, Regional Court Modimolle convicted and sentenced a 35-year-old male accused, Linda Dlamini to an effective twenty years imprisonment after being found guilty for business robbery which took place at Mookgophong policing area.
Dlamini’s conviction and sentencing emanated after the accused together with four accomplices committed a business robbery at Exact store in Mookgophong on 22 April 2019.
According to police report, four unknown males and one woman entered the clothing store in possession of firearms and robbed the employees of an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones.
Afterwards, the suspects fled the scene with a white Nissan Tilda motor vehicle with Gauteng province registration number.
Police and members of Modimolle Task Team and ITA Tracking Company received information about the robbery and immediately commenced with a manhunt of the suspects. The motor vehicle fitting the description was later spotted at Petroport filling station in Pretoria and three males aged between 23 and 39 were immediately arrested on the spot.
A 42-year-old woman was later traced with assistance of Crime Intelligence and arrested in Soweto, Protea Magistrates’ court while attending another court case not related to the robbery whilst one male suspect managed to evade arrest and have since been on the run.
Through intensive investigations executed by Sergeant Levy Matjeke, Dlamini pleaded guilty and was sentenced to twenty years imprisonment but his accomplices were not found guilty and their cases were withdrawn.
Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the hard work and dedication by Sergeant Matjeke and his team that resulted in the court outcome.
Police investigations are still continuing.
