SAPS Humewood opened an inquest after an alleged suspect was stabbed during a robbery this morning in Central.
It is alleged that at approximately 07:30, the 43-year-old complainant was walking from Russel Road in Central and as she turned into Elliot Street, she was approached by an unknown male who engaged in a conversation with her.
The 25-year-old suspect pulled out a knife and cut the strap of her handbag.
The complainant who also had a knife, pulled it out and during a struggle with the suspect, she stabbed him once in the chest.
The complainant sustained a stab wound to her right hand. After the scuffle the suspect got up and collapsed a few metres away.
He died on the scene.
Both knives were confiscated and an inquest was opened for further investigation.
