Theft of platinum plates worth R6.3 million, 4 suspects in court

The Gqeberha Serious Commercial Crime Investigation of the Hawks in collaboration with Priority Crime Specialised Investigation as well as National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) arrested Ronaldo Henry Jason (52), Ruwayne Eddie Luppan (35), Roual Rowell Shelby Martin (30) and Quewin Kirsten September (25) for allegations of theft and contravention of Organised Crime Act on 07 July 2023.

The four were employed at Minileit Company (Pty) Ltd which was based at Gqeberha.

During the period between 1 April 2021 and 31 May 2022 the four accused persons allegedly acted in a common purpose to misappropriate stock that was in a form of platinum plates which were sold unlawfully to nearby scrap metal business.

It is further reported that all the accused successfully sold platinum plates for their personal gain and cash was directed into their pockets.

The company conducted its internal investigation then “red flags” were picked up and the matter was referred to Gqeberha Serious Commercial Crime Investigation of the Hawks for probing.

It is further reported that more investigations were conducted and revealed that the company suffered as loss of over R6.3 million.

All four accused made their short appearance at Gqeberha Specialized Commercial Crime Court on 7 July 2023, where they were each released on R500 bail.

The case was the remanded to 20 July 2023 for legal representation.
