The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit in Phalaborwa arrested an 18-year-old foreign national shopkeeper, after he allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl at his Tuck shop at Selwane village in Lulekani Policing precinct on Thursday 20 July 2023.
According to the reports received, the child had been sent to the shop at about 15:00 to buy some items when the suspect allegedly threatened and raped her.
The devastated child reported the incident to her family when she arrived home and the Police were immediately contacted.
A case of rape was opened and transferred to the FCS Unit for further investigation.
The suspect was arrested at the shop within a few hours of the incident.
The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident and praised the child for her bravery and ensuring this shameless individual is exposed for his devious acts.
Crimes against women and children have always been a priority to the South African Police Service and the swift action of our members in arresting the suspect is highly commendable,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.
The suspect will appear before the Lulekani Magistrate’s Court on Monday 24 July 2023 facing a charge of rape.
