Police make breakthrough on triple murder in Chatty

GQEBERHA – The diligence of the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation (Gang Investigation) in tracking the suspects involved in the brutal murders of Christopher Mentoor (28), Darren Aphew (29) and Winston Clarke (30) on Tuesday 8 August 2023, in Booysens Park paid off when three suspects were arrested.

It is alleged on Friday 11 August 2023 the investigation team conducted several suspect raiding operations within the areas of Extention 21, Bethelsdorp, where they arrested three suspects (two males aged 35 and 37 and one female aged 35) on charges of murder, arson and assault to cause grievous bodily harm.

It is alleged that at approximately 01:10 in Roman Street, Booysens Park, suspects entered the house where the owner (deceased) was socialising with his girlfriend and three other friends (two males and one female). It is alleged that the suspects were looking for drugs. All the occupants were assaulted. One victim, a female was stabbed in the arm, and the second female had no visible injuries. Both females were outside the house when the suspects tied up the three males, they allegedly poured petrol in the house and set the house alight. The three victims were engulfed by the flames and burned to death.

The incident is suspected to be gang related. The three suspects will appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate court on Monday 14 August 2023.
