Law enforcement agencies deal decisively with illicit trade of counterfeit goods

The concerted efforts of law enforcement agencies in Gauteng to deal with illicit trading of counterfeit goods and contraband continue to produce positive results as they arrests two men and seized counterfeit goods to the value of more than R17million.

On 31 August 2023, a search and seizure operation was conducted at Marabastad in Pretoria and this led to the recovery of counterfeit goods such as shoes, clothes, jewellery and toys. Two foreign national suspects were arrested and are expected to appear before court soon.

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng has applauded the team comprising of SAPS, Gauteng Traffic Saturation, SARS Customs, Brand Protectors and Crime Prevention Wardens for their continuous efforts in removing counterfeit goods from the streets as they have a negative impact on the economic growth of the country.
