The swift response by members of Lingelethu West police attributed to the arrest of two adult males for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition this morning.
The members received information about a gun-salute that was scheduled at a funeral this morning. The information was operationalized and the members proceeded to the identified address. As the members approached the street they heard the sound of gunshots going off. Two men were seen running away and the members immediately responded by chasing the suspects down. Upon searching them, they found a firearm in possession of the one suspect and a magazine with rounds of ammunition on the other.
Once charged, the suspects will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges. In an unrelated intervention members of the Anti-Gang Unit arrested an adult female for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Leiden, Delft on Tuesday, 05 September 2023. The members searched an identified premises in Fimi Close, Leiden when they recovered a firearm.
The suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court once she has been charged.
