The 59-year-old man from Meqheleng near Ficksburg is expected to appear before the local Magistrate Court pending the alleged rape of his niece, with whom they share a one-year-old toddler boy.
It’s alleged that between December 2018 and March 2023 the suspect slept with his niece until he impregnated her a year ago at the age of 16. She finally reported the incident to her teachers, who also brought the matter to the police’s attention on 11 September 2023 and he was arrested.
It’s further alleged her uncle had been sleeping with her on several occasions before and after her pregnancy and gave birth to a one-year-old daughter as a result of being sexually abused. She was scared to report the matter because she is an orphan and the uncle threatened her that he would chase her out to the street and ordered her to frame her boyfriend for the pregnancy. She was fearing for her life and that of her child for not reporting the matter. A case of rape was opened and suspect was arrested.
The 59-year-old is expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 13 September 2023 facing a charge of rape.
