Operation Kukula (Shanela) nets over 1000 suspects across Limpopo province

The South African Police Service in Limpopo arrested 1083 suspects, seized 15 unlicensed firearms and served about 276 protection orders during the High Density Operations Kukula (Shanela) conducted at the five Districts from the 18 September to 24 September 2023.

The suspects were arrested for offenses ranging from murder, attempted murder, rape, robbery, assault, dealing in drugs, arson, fraud, malicious damage to property, burglary, illegal possession of firearm and ammunitions, violation of Domestic Violence Act and Contravention of Immigration Act.

Various law enforcement agencies, private Security and stakeholders formed part of these potent operations that focused on tracing of wanted suspects, blue light patrols, visibility, roadblocks, Stop and searches and inspection of second hand goods dealers among other things.

During the operations, 440 counterfeit cigarette sticks, 19 dangerous weapons, 1629 grams of dagga, 10 dagga plants, 484.6 grams of Nyaope, 110.5 grams of Crystal Meth and 1.5 grams of Crack Cocaine were confiscated and 1060 fines were issued.

In addition, 249 Domestic Violence related incidents were attended, 21 knives confiscated, 947 026ml liquor confiscated, 07 robbed or stolen motor vehicles were recovered, and 90 drug related suspects and 20 Domestic Violence suspects arrested.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the results achieved during these Operations and praised the members for working tirelessly in curbing criminal activities in the Province.

Some of the suspects have already started to appear before their respective Magistrate Courts.
