The Hartswater Regional Court recently imposed a 26 years’ imprisonment sentence to 27-year-old Tsholofelo Sydney Wesi for raping a 27-year-old female victim on Saturday, 07 September 2019.
The Court heard that the victim was hitch-hiking home to Sekhing village, Pampierstad when she was accosted by the suspect who at the time offered to accompany her home as it was dark, a gesture she kindly accepted.
The suspect took out a knife and robbed the victim of her money and proceeded to rape her twice in different locations.
The Court sentenced Tsholofelo, to 18 years’ imprisonment for 2 counts of rape and 8 years’ for robbery, both sentences to run concurrently and ordered the accused name be entered in the National Register for Sexual Offenders, and he is also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, welcomed the Court outcome, citing that it will serve as a deterrent to other would-be rapists.
She further commended the Hartswater FCS Detective Sergeant Edwin Thabapelo for demonstrating the capabilities of the police in fighting gender-based violence and femicide.
