Kingsley Leeto Chele rearrested through the tip-off and assistance of the media

Update – The accused was rearrested in the early hours of the morning on Monday, 16 October 2023, in Vosloorus. The arrest was as a result of information and tip-off received from one of the media houses following a media statement issued about the wanted fugitive.

The management of the police in Gauteng appreciates the role played by the media in particular and the community in general in the fight against crime.

The suspect, whose country of birth is yet to be confirmed, is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 17 October 2023. A charge of escaping from lawful custody will be added to the charges that he was already facing.

SAPS Lyttleton in Tshwane district, have launched a manhunt for an escaped accused named Kingsley Leeto Chele.

Chele is a Facebook con artist who targeted women by misrepresenting himself as a doctor or a pharmacist and scamming them of their hard earned money. He went by the names of Dr Kingsley Chele or Dr KJ Ncube.

He operated by contacting health professionals on Facebook and engaging them, pretending to seek investors while he swindled them out of thousands of rands for projects that did not exist. He was arrested by the police on 2 October 2023 after two cases of fraud were registered in Sunnyside and Klipgat in June 2023. His bail was denied when he appeared before the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court, and he was remanded in custody until his next appearance on 17 October 2023. The investigating officer of the case roped in the asset forfeiture unit to assist in attaching the accused property that is believed to have been accumulated as proceeds of crime, including a 2023 VW Golf GTI. On 11 October 2023, Chele managed to escape from lawful custody when the police were cataloguing his household items at his residence, and he has been on the run since.

The police have registered a case of escape from lawful custody at SAPS Honeydew.

Anyone with information is requested to contact the Investigating Officer, Captain Motolla at 082 715 9583 or to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
