60-year-old alleged shooter’s house and workshop up in flames

A few hours after he was released from court, the 60-year-old man believed to have taken the life of a 78-year-old man through the barrel of a gun found himself homeless after community members went on rampage and torched his house and workshop.

The suspect, allegedly shot and killed a 78-year-old man in Kamhlushwa before he handed himself over to KaMhlushwa police.

He spent a week behind bars for murder. The suspect was taken to court on Monday, 13 November 2023, but his case was not enrolled as a result he was a free man.

Community members were not happy about his return to the community, hence they decided to set both his workshop and house on fire.

According to the report, the suspect was not at home when his property was guttered by the fire.

An arson case was registered at Kamhlushwa SAPS for further investigation.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has condemned the acts of violence and urged community members not to take law into their own hands.
