Members of Crime Prevention Unit were busy patrolling at Kgotha Informal Section, Phahameng, when they received a complaint of community members blocking the R700 road on 17 November 2023 at about 19:30. On arrival, there were members of the community with sjamboks and three males were seen on the ground.
They were badly assaulted with multiple injuries all over their bodies. According to witnesses, the trio belongs to a gang called “Maroma” who were terrorizing the community of Khotha informal settlement with burglaries and were caught red handed committing the same crime.
Paramedics were summoned to the scene, one of the victim was certified dead who could be 24-years-old. The other two victims were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. A case of Murder and two counts of attempted murder was registered for further investigation. The Acting District Commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Brigadier Envor Solomon appeals to residents not to take law into their own hands but allow the wheels of justice to roll. That is to hand over people suspected to have committed a crime to the local SAPS to conduct a thorough investigation. Otherwise anyone found will face the full might of the law.
