Two suspects were nabbed by the members of the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit and Sekhukhune District Task Team in connection with the hijacking of Phokwane Funeral Undertaker’s Toyota Fortuner motor vehicle on Monday 04 December 2023.
The suspects aged 23 and 26 were apprehended at separate locations during a joint operation that was executed on Thursday 07 December 2023 until the early hours of Friday 08 December 2023 at about 01:30.
Police report indicated that the employees of the Funeral Parlour were driving a white Toyota Fortuner intending to deposit cash at Jane Furse Plaza when they were hijacked by the two suspects who did not manage to take the money.
During the operation, a 23 year-old male suspect was arrested at his residence in Kgaruthuthu Section, Ga-Marishane village under Nebo policing area at about 00:50.
Afterwards, the operational team proceeded to Jane Furse policing precinct in Mamone village and managed to arrest his accomplice aged 26 while at his hideout on Friday 08 December 2023 at about 01:30.
A 26 year-old male suspect subsequently led the police to his residence at the same village. Upon their arrival, a search was conducted at the premise and police discovered an unlicensed firearm concealed under a handbrake of a silver Toyota Yaris motor vehicle that was parked inside the yard.
The firearm was confiscated and a charge of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition were further added against a 26 year-old suspect.
The two suspects are expected to appear before the Nebo Magistrate court soon facing charges of hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Police investigations are continuing.
