Police recover stolen copper, one suspect arrested

In an effort to address the non-ferrous metal and essential infrastructure related crimes, the police recovered copper cable worth R15 0000 at a local scrapyard in Jeppe and arrested one suspect.

On 04 January 2024, the Johannesburg Flying Squad together with JMPD operationalised intelligence information about a scrapyard selling stolen copper cables at Betrams in Jeppe.

The owner of the scrapyard was found and permission was granted to search the premises where the members recovered rolls of copper cable. Preliminery investigation established that the copper cable belong to PRASA and Johannesburg City Power.

The 49-year-old owner of the scrapyard was arrested and is expected to appear before Jeppe Magistrates’ Court soon.
