Five suspects arrested with endangered plants worth R2.7 Million in Nieuwoudtville

The police in Nieuwoudtville with the assistance of members of a nearby Nature Reserve pounced on five male suspects while poaching protected plants worth about R2.7 million in Nieuwoudtville.

On 27 June 2024 the team followed up on information regarding alleged plant poaching near Nieuwoudtville and caught the suspects while busy harvesting the endangered 424 Clavias Marebelius plants.

The suspects are between the ages of 21 and 30 and are charged with illegal possession of endangered plants species and will appear in court soon. The investigation continues.

The Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended the Nieuwoudtville SAPS and the members of the Nature Reserve for the outstanding success and reiterated that we will continue to intensify our efforts to protect the fauna and flora in the province in collaboration with all inhabitants.
