A person suffered a near drowning after allegedly being robbed and pushed off Athlone Bridge into the Umgeni River

Just after 06:15pm ALS Paramedics were called to assist a person who had suffered a near drowning after allegedly being robbed and pushed off Athlone Bridge into the Umgeni River north of Durban.

Paramedics arrived on scene to find Metro Police Search and Rescue in attendance. Paramedics were shown to a female believed to be in her sixties who alleges that whilst walking along Athlone Drive she was robbed and then pushed off the bridge into the fast flowing Umgeni River below.

Metro Police Search and Rescue division were able to Rescue the lady and brought her to safety.

The lady was treated for moderate injuries by ALS Paramedics before she was transported to a nearby Hospital for the further care that she required.

Metro Police and SAPS will be investigating this incident….
