KeymasterAfriForum asks international community to impose sanctions on Julius Malema
The civil rights organisation AfriForum will, as part of its international campaign against the “Kill the Boer” chant, request governments to introduce personal sanctions against Julius Malema and others who are guilty of gross human rights violations through their open calls for violence against Afrikaners and farmers. AfriForum will also request that governments express their concern through diplomatic channels about the South African government and President Cyril Ramaphosa’s failure to unconditionally condemn the calls for violence against Afrikaners and farmers.
According to Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, the call for international punitive measures against Malema is necessary because the Constitutional Court’s legalisation of the “Kill the Boer” chant means that Malema cannot be held accountable in South Africa for his hate speech against Afrikaners and farmers.
Kriel points out that AfriForum’s legal team is already busy drafting a dossier against Malema and his colleagues in which it is pointed out how they violate human rights and express their support for terrorist organisations. It will also point to the serious allegations of corruption against them. “This dossier will be handed over to governments worldwide to point out the need for personal sanctions,” Kriel adds.
“No one should be untouchable if they violate human rights by, as in Malema’s case, inciting violence. If justice is not done locally, AfriForum will continue to utilise alternative remedies abroad,” Kriel concludes.
