An elderly couple at the NC Church Haakdoornboom in Pretoria North were violently attacked and robbed.

The incident happened on Wednesday night, 19 April.

According to crime activist Ian Cameron, about eight to ten suspects ransacked the church and the house between 21:30 and 02:00. They tied up the elderly couple and stole phones, money, electronics, a generator, speakers, amongst other things.

“The victims were attacked around 21:30 and the suspects left the crime scene around 02:00 this morning (Thursday). The call for help came through at 03:43 this morning after the victims managed to free themselves and called for help,” he said.

In another recent incident, two gunmen allegedly stormed the Showers of Blessings Christian Zion Church in Taiwan, Khayelitsha, on Sunday, 9 April.

Police said the pair allegedly robbed the congregation and sexually assaulted two women before taking off with cellphones and money.

In another incident, a pastor and his wife were attacked and robbed at gunpoint by an armed man in a church in Thabong.

Police said a man entered the church premises and pointed them with a firearm. The couple fought back, and the man grabbed a laptop and ran away.

“The pastor chased the man until the man dropped the laptop, bag, Adidas sweater, and a mask next to one of the houses in Oppenheimer Park Thabong. These items were seized by Police as exhibits. Then the pastor picked up the laptop and reported the incident to Thabong Police Station,” police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng said.
