Elderly of smallholding attack dies
Rassie Smith, 69, was shot in the head on December 12, at about 1:45 pm, during a house robbery on a smallholding in Niemand Street.
Elzitha Schoeman, his daughter-in-law, confirmed to FiND IT that their father, Rassie (Erasmus Petrus Smith) died on December 19 in the intensive care unit of Kalafong Hospital.
Elzitha, who is married to Rassie’s son, shared this special message from the family for the deceased:
“Miss me – but let me go
Here at the end of my life path
finally dropped the sun for me
But don’t cry and mourn over me
Oh no, rejoice: my soul is free!
Miss me for a while – but not for long,
with head up and no sad sound.
Remember how our love paved our life path,
Miss me – but let me go.
This path we must walk each,
And alone we have to tackle the journey.
All of this is part of God’s Master Plan,
On the way to where the eternal replaces the temporary.

Rassie’s Cremation Service will take place on December 29 at 12:00 at Koinonia Christian Center in Van der Hoff Road, Pretoria Gardens.
Rassie leaves his partner Merle, his brother Michael, 80, his son Shaun and his wife, with four children and two great -grandchildren, as well as his daughter Angie with a grandchild, stepdaughter Natasha with three children, six grandchildren and two great -grandchildren and his Stepson Kobus with four grandchildren behind.
Ao Johan van Dyk says Rassie and his partner Merle slept on the day in question. Merle woke up and noticed two men at the foot of the bed. She screamed and Rassie woke up. A suspect fired a shot that hit Rassie in the left side of his head.
The suspects fled without anything being stolen. Hercules police are investigating a case of house robbery.
