KeymasterThe Department of Correctional Services says covnicted killer and former paralympian Oscar Pistorius will be released on parole on 5 January 2024.
Pistorius, who killed his girlfriend on the eve of Valentine’s Day in 2013, was granted parole on Friday, 24 November.
WHEN WILL OSCAR PISTORIUS BE HOME?
As previously reported by The South African, initially, Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide in 2014 where he was sentenced to 5 years direct imprisonment, however, his sentence was ratified to 13 years and five months in 2017 following a number of appeals.
Following an unsuccessful parole bid earlier this year, the court eventually found that “By 21 March 2023 [Pistorius] had served half of his sentence as contemplated in section 73(6) of the Correctional Services Act 111 of 1998”.

Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said the parole placement decision was taken by the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board, having assessed the former world champion’s profile and other material submitted for the purposes of parole consideration.
Nxumalo said Pistorius was classified as a first-time offender and that his parile is in line with Section 73 of the Correctional Services Act.
“Pistorius will complete the remainder of the sentence in the system of community corrections and will be subjected to supervision in compliance with parole conditions until his sentence expires,” he added.
Meanwhile, Reeva’s mother, June Steenkamp, notified the court that she would not attend the hearing and did not oppose the convicted killer’s court bid for freedom this time.
