Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma will not return to parliament after elections. She has thanked ANC leadership for allowing her to become first female AU chair
Minister in the Presidency for women, children and person’s with disabilities, Nkosazane Dlamini-Zuma, has announced her retirement from Parliament after the 2024 general elections.
FINAL TERM IN PARLIAMENT
Dlamini-Zuma told the ruling African National Congress of her decision, after being invited to interview for the 2024 national list by former president and current chairperson of the ANC Electoral Committee Kgalema Motlanthe.
In her letter Dlamini-Zuma has thanked ANC branches for their confidence in her and nominating her as well as all spheres of the ruling party whom she has served as a member of parliament since 1994.
“My sincere gratitude to the entire leadership of the African National Congress from national, provincial, regional and branch levels for affording me the opportunity and support to serve the country and the people of South Africa as a public representative and as a member of Cabinet since 1994”, says Dlamini-Zuma.
“It will not be necessary to schedule the interview for the 2024 national list because I have taken the decision to retire from being a member of the South African Parliament.”
FAILING TO TOE THE LINE
Dlamini-Zuma has yet not made any announcement around her future in politics. Meanwhile she still has pending cases within the ANC’s disciplinary committee for going against the party.
The 74 year old, first failed to toe party lines by voting in favour of adopting Section 89 recommendations for parliamentary committee consider impeaching President Cyril Ramaphosa over the Phala Phala saga. Secondly, Dlamini was not present when MP’s voted for the removal of Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane from office.
