Ekurhuleni councillor steals Mayor’s phone during council meeting chaos.
NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION: CHAOS BREAKS BETWEEN EKURHULENI COUNCILORS
A fight broke out between councilors of the EFF and the ANC during the debate on a motion of no confidence in the Ekurhuleni mayor, Sivuyile Ngodwana and his committee.
The help of the metro police was called in to remove EFF councilors from the meeting after the protection services failed to maintain order when water bottles and papers were thrown into the council chamber.
EFF councilors attacked the speaker, Nthabiseng Tshivhenga – who is also an EFF member – when she gave preference to an ANC speaker over an EFF councilor.
The mayor’s committee member charged with finances, the EFF’s Nkululeku Dunga has also come under fire as the finances of the metro council have recently deteriorated significantly under his control.
The session was adjourned and the motion will now be heard in another matter.
