    Police in Mecklenburg outside Sekhukhune have launched a massive search for suspects who allegedly stoned to death a man suspected of illegal mining at the Maatadi village last night, Thursday, May 25, 2023.
    Police were called to the scene at 20:00. Upon arrival, they found an unknown man on the mountain with visible injuries throughout his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
    “Preliminary investigations show that the victim was stoned to death by unknown suspects. The deceased’s identity is not yet known, but investigations have revealed that he is from the KwaZulu-Natal province,” Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said.
    “The motive for the murder is unknown and no one has yet been arrested.”
    The Limpopo provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe, strongly condemned this barbaric attack and ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.
    Police have opened a case of murder and are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the arrest of the suspects by calling Lieutenant Colonel Phillip Mohlala on 082 414 3070 or the Stop Crime Number on 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.
