KeymasterState does not supply enough evidence for attempted murder, changing complaint back to assault
The bail application of Mr Piet Groenewald, 63, and his son Stephan Greeff, 27, were postponed to January 31 after the court was only called to session after lunch.
The application will continue on Wednesday because the court adjourned by 4pm, and time was not on the side of the defense.
It has also been announced that the attempted murder complaint against the father and son charged with assaulting an employee, and when a security dog left him, was now changed back to assault with intent to injure.
It also clearly emerged in court that the only reason the state oppose bail is the safety of the accused.
Several threats were apparently made to the investigating officer himself, although he claimed arrests could not be made due to the death threats, because the police allegedly had too little manpower.
Constable Gregory Maleasenya has just testified that four people have so far been arrested for intimidation.
However, he no longer expanded on this.

The victim, Mr. Veneruru Kavari, 30, claims he was beaten with the handle of an ax, after which the dog bit him.
He further claims that he was injected with an unknown substance during the incident last Thursday at Mr. Groenewald’s farm, from which the Wildlife Investigation and Protections Services (WIPS), a private security company, operates.
Mr. Kavari was appointed as security guard just five days before the alleged incident.
Kavari claims to have been accused of drunkenness on duty before the assault.
He was accompanied by his caretaker and colleague to the Wips offices on Groenewald’s farm on Thursday, where he was again accused of drinking on duty.
He denied it and claimed that Mr. Groenewald then attacked him and assaulted him with the ax steal.
He was able to flee after which Mr. Groenewald allegedly ordered Greeff to let the dog go.
Kavari suffered superficial bite marks on both legs, after which he was allegedly injected with an unknown substance.
Kavari’s brother and police were then called.
The state oppose bail and claims the community has already protested at both the police station and at Groenewald’s farm after the incident.
There are also apparent threats to me. Elmarie Groenewald’s phone sent, but she maintains that if her husband and son are released on bail, she will not fear her safety or life.
Constable Maleasenya, who is currently miner than two years in the service of the police, admitted that both Mr. Groenewald and Greeff were prepared to hand over their passports to him.
He asked the court to keep father and son in custody until there was calm in the community.
He did confirm that he did not want to staff them with detention, but that it would be for their own safety.
It was also argued that the accused know eyewitnesses, and their work could be compromised if they were released because the Witnesses worked for them and also enjoyed housing on the farm.
Ms. Faith Raselomane is acting on behalf of the state while lawyer CJ van Wyk was appointed by Groenewald and Greeff.
Both men will be a full week behind bars tomorrow. and deny the complaints against them.
The magistrate adjourned before the court ordered that Mr. Groenewald is sent for a medical examination because he may have had a light attack Friday, after his arrest, in custody.
