Eastern Cape. -An elderly man and woman, both 85 years old, were allegedly attacked and assaulted on a smallholding on the Elands River road in Rocklands on January 6.
According to Col. Priscilla Naidu the dog barked outside, with which the man went outside to investigate, where he was beaten by a suspect with a knobkierie and he fell.
The suspect was then apparently inside the house. He took the woman to the master bedroom and looted it. The woman sustained injuries to her arms as he handled her hard.
The man allegedly entered the house and tried to hit the suspect with a pipe. He was overwhelmed and badly hit on his head, hands and arms.
It is unknown whether the suspect stole anything when he fled on foot from the scene.
Naidu says the elderly pair was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, where the man was admitted to severe injuries.
