Prof Salim Abdool Karim, who chairs the ministerial advisory committee said when the virus hit SA in 2019, he had had discussions with Prof Lynn Morris, who at the time was the interim director of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases where he said he was willing to attempt to formulate a vaccine.
