A Boer is considered as the descendant of those who were present with the two Vows between the Boervolk and God. People can become a Boer when they make this their own, and from there acts as if they were part of those agreements.

It works like a grafted branch of a tree. If the grafted branch does not accept the root system on the tree it is grafted to, it will die. Being grafted onto another tree means that you do not have your own roots any longer.
