Murder of Margaretha Willemse (79), suspect tracked down, Mossel bay

Kwanonqaba police made a major breakthrough in the investigation into the death of Margaretha S Willemse (79), from Mossel bay, with the arrest of a 40 year old suspect who is expected to make his first appearance in the Mossel Bay Magistrates’ court on Monday, 12 December 2022.

Investigation into the brutal killing reveals that the 87-year old husband of the victim alerted the neighbour’s caretaker about his wife at Albatros Street, Pinnacle Point, Mossel Bay on the morning of 4 June 2022.

They proceeded with inspection at the premises and found the body of the woman in the bedroom with a wound to the neck.

Crime scene experts combed the scene for clues which resulted in an extensive search for a man linked to this incident through forensic evidence found on the scene.

Meantime, a warrant of arrest was issued against the suspect by the Mossel Bay Magistrates’ court which was executed when he was tracked down in Wepener, Free State last week.

The suspect remains in police custody.

He is facing charges of murder as well as three counts of housebreaking and theft.

Garden Route District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, commended the investigators for their diligence and commitment to ensure that the suspect get his day in court.
