The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has received an update from the Investigation Team that is responsible for the investigation of the Boksburg explosion and he is satisfied with the progress.
The Team, that comprises SAPS’s seasoned officers from Detectives, Legal Services, Forensic Services led by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner Crime Detection, Major General Mbuso Khumalo, has formulated a prosecutorial guided investigation plan which is currently being implemented.
“I would like to assure the public that this investigation is receiving priority and I am satisfied with the progress that has been made by the Team so far,” said Lt Gen Mawela.
The Team continues to gather the necessary evidence and to engage the relevant stakeholders including the Department of Transport and
Department of Health as well as City of Ekurhuleni to strengthen the investigation.
The death toll has thus far risen to 32.
Six of the deceased are yet to be identified.
