A chop shop owner was nabbed, subsequent to being found in possession of parts of alleged stolen vehicle parts.
Members of Kimberley Crime Intelligence, Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit and the Crime Scene Management section acted tactically after receiving information about illegal activities at identified premises in Lerato Park operating as a chop shop.
The team conducted raids and inspections on the premises and found a Mazda 323, which was reported stolen in Kimberley in 2021.
The alleged vehicle was found on the premises, chopped and dismantled of its body parts. Some of the parts were found stored at another premises not far from the chop shop.
The owner of the chop shop was arrested and charged with two counts of theft of motor vehicle, and for illegal dealing with scrap metal.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 10 January 2023.
