‘Minister of Tourism’s billion-rand sponsorship of foreign soccer team an utter disgrace’

The fact that the Minister of Tourism, Lindiwe Sisulu, is even considering spending nearly one billion rand in tax money on sponsoring a foreign soccer team, once again demonstrates just how out of touch the ANC government is with reality.

It came to light that the Tourism Ministry and SA Tourism are currently negotiating such a sponsorship with the English Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur.

The FF Plus will lodge a complaint about this with the Public Protector (PP).

Under the best circumstances, such an expense would amount to misappropriation. Considering the country’s current condition, it borders on being criminal.

It will be of absolutely no value to the country or the population, and merely serves to embarrass South Africa.

These funds must rather be used to mitigate the detrimental effects that the Covid-19 regulations had on small to medium-sized tourism enterprises.

The Minister’s cynical conduct confirms the FF Plus’s viewpoint that the Ministry of Tourism is superfluous, and that its allocated budget can already be written off as wasteful expenditure.

The Ministry has reached a new low point under Sisulu’s leadership.

South Africa deserves better than the ANC.
