A farm attack took place on 25 February 2023, at about 02:15 on a smallholding in Kameeldrift West, in the Gauteng province of South Africa.
A man (25) who resides in a separate part of the home that he shares with his mother, was attacked in his bed by at least two attackers.
The attackers violently assaulted him with a panga over the head and then opened fire on him.
He was shot in the hand and in the chest.
The attackers gained entry to the property after cutting the electric fence and then forcing open the front door.
After the assault the attackers fled on foot and the man’s mom raised the alarm and called for help. She then loaded her son in the car and sped off to hospital where he was placed in the ICU in a stable but critical condition.
The man’s skull was fractured from the panga assault and the bullet that went through his chest punctured his lung.
At this point it is unclear if anything was robbed during the attack.
Hercules police are investigating but there have been no arrests.
