Man arrested with 2 rhino horns in Piet Retief

Members of the SAPS from Piet Retief made a major breakthrough after arresting a man in possession of two rhino horns on Thursday, 9 March 2023 around 09:00.

The 27-year-old, Ntsako Prince Letswele’s arrest came as a result of members of the public who brought information about his alleged dodgy dealings to the police.

According to the information, there was a white Nissan Qashqai, travelling on the R534 (Wakkerstroom Road) and it was being driven by a certain man. Further details outlined that the vehicle was having a Gauteng registration number plates and that the car was transporting some rhino horns.

The information was then followed by the members and the vehicle was spotted as it approached Piet Retief CBD where it was brought to a halt.

A search was then conducted and upon searching the vehicle, members discovered the two rhino horns hidden inside the bonnet of the car but wrapped with some black plastics.

Ntsako Prince Letswele has appeared at the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court on Friday 10 March 2023, where the matter was postponed to 14 March 2023 to enable the suspect to obtain a legal representative.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi has expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the manner in which community members support the police with information regarding crime. The General father praise the members for their swift response which resulted recovery of the rhino horns as well as the arrest of the suspect.
