Northern Cape operations – Police confiscate illegal firearms

The police in the Northern Cape Province confiscated five firearms and arrested several suspects in various station areas.

The police in De Aar recently confiscated two 9mm pistols, ammunition, bankies of dagga and Mandrax tablets. One male suspect was arrested and charged with possession of an illegal firearm, ammunition and drugs.

The two males aged 32 and 42 years old were arrested with a revolver and ammunition in Modderriver after information was operationalised.

Police in Victoria West followed up on information regarding an illegal firearm and found it buried near the train station. Police arrested two males and confiscated a firearm.

Warrenton SAPS followed up on information regarding a house robbery and came across three unknown males, searched them and confiscated a firearm. The firearm was reported stolen in Christiana. The three suspects were arrested.

SAPS members doing patrols on the N12 near Kimberley spotted three suspicious looking vehicles with six occupants. The vehicles were searched and police found truck wheels and a firearm with ammunition in one of the vehicles.

Upon further investigation the police found the truck on the R31 near Barkly West. The driver was sleeping inside and was not aware of the theft from the truck. The vehicle that the goods were found in was also confiscated by the SAPS.

Police also followed up on information and arrested a suspect in Van Wyksvlei after stopping and searching a silver bakkie on the R361 and confiscated a substantial amount of drugs over the past weekend.

On the 19 March 2023, Roodepan SAPS were busy with routine patrols in Northview when they spotted a suspicious looking male. When they approached him he attempted to flee however, police gave chase and swiftly arrested the suspect only to find out the 31-year-old male is wanted for contravention of a protection order.

The police will continue unabatedly to have all boots on the ground and bolster efforts in the proliferation of firearms and also see that drugs are off the streets and crime is continually eradicated.
