The Queenstown based Serious Corruption Investigation of the Hawks arrested Lunga Nkrumah Sivuka (41) on 20 March 2023 for charges of fraud.
It is alleged that in 2020, the Department of Education advertised an educator’s post at Corana Junior Secondary School.
The advertisement clearly stated what qualifications were required and the accused allegedly submitted his application for the post stating that he obtained his Bachelor of Education qualification in 2017 from Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha.
It was later established that Sivuka did not pass his final examination and could not have obtained the qualification he allegedly claimed to have obtained. Investigations further revealed that the accused lied about his qualification thus causing an actual prejudice of more than R500 000 to the Department of Education.
Sivuka was arrested on 20 March 2023 at his private residence in Mthatha.
He appeared before the Magistrate in Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on the very same day and was released on R5000 bail.
The matter is remanded to 25 April 2023 to set a trial date.
The Provincial Head Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya commended the team for the sterling job done within a short space of time.
