Odendaalsrus drug dealers arrested

Members of the Welkom Public Order Policing Reaction Team with the assistance of the community arrested a man and a woman with Mandrax tablets, heroin, and crystal meth in separate incidents.

On 21 March 2023 at about 09:00, members of the Welkom POP Reaction Team received information from residents of Kutloanong who pointed out a house where drugs were allegedly being sold. At the identified house they met a 29-year-old woman and upon searching the house they found small bags with crystal meth, heroine and cash.

It was discovered that she is a security officer at one of the mines.

The members further followed up on information of a suspect who is transporting drugs from Welkom to Odendaalsrus.

The members spotted the vehicle and the suspect during a way-lay operation. The vehicle was stopped and they found mandrax tablets, heroine also known as nyaope and crystal meth.

A 33-year-old man was arrested. After further investigation, members proceeded to a house in Residencia in Odendaalsrus where more drugs were found. Apparently, the rented room is used to store these drugs. Two scales were also seized.

The two suspects face charges of dealing in drugs and they will appear in the Odendaalsrus Magistrate Court on 23 March 2023.

The Acting District Commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Brigadier Mzondi Mojafi, applauded the Welkom POP members for responding swiftly to information resulting in the arrests. Residents of Kutloanong were also appreciated for reporting drug dealers. “They are destroying our future leaders, which are our young people, with these drugs. We must squeeze the space for them to the point where they will not have any space left to sell drugs,” said Brigadier Mojafi.
