Vehicle fraud scheme, couple in Goodwood court

Muhammed Imran (35) and Suraya Imran were arrested by the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) team on 18 March 2023 and 20 March 2023 respectively for allegations relating to vehicle fraud.

They both briefly appeared in the Goodwood Magistrates’ court on 20 March 2023 where the wife was released on R3000-00 bail and the husband was remanded in custody for formal bail application.

The duo’s next court appearance is on 3 and 4 April 2023.

The accused are reported to have been involved in a vehicle purchase scheme by using their company, Bismel Well Inter, registered as Cape Town PTY (LTD).

The accused, Maria Magdalena Amran, an employee of the company, allegedly obtained loans at various banks and she was previously arrested on this matter on 19 January 2023.

The husband of Maria, allegedly controlled runners that were used to purchase vehicles from dealers, was gunned down days before his arrest on 19 January 2023.

The bank uncovered the scheme and reported the matter to the Hawks for further probing in December 2021.

Thorough investigation by the SOCI team led to the arrest of the duo and during the investigation, the team recovered two vehicles at the residence, a Toyota Fortuner valued at R800 000-00 as well as a Mercedes Benz valued at R250 000-00.

The two vehicles were obtained fraudulently. This now comes to a total of three accused and seven vehicles recovered.
