Raids net R147k worth of drugs, Northam

Concerted efforts by Police to rid the Province of drug related criminality yielded positive results after Drugs worth more than one hundred thousands rand were confiscated in Northam policing area during an integrated intelligence driven operation that was conducted on Friday 24 March 2023.

Police received valuable information about two suspects who were allegedly dealing in drugs at Northam location and the information was operationalized by the Waterberg District Flying Squad Team, Modimolle and Lephalale Dog Units (K9).

The suspects were subsequently located at separate residences. A 27-year-old male was nabbed for being in possession of 1053 sachets of nyaope drugs with an estimated street value of R52 650-00 and R220-00 in cash.

His accomplice aged 38, was also found in possession of 633 sachets of Rock drugs valued at R94 950-00. During the snap operation, police managed to confiscate the drugs totalling R147 800-00 and further investigations will be conducted to locate the main suppliers or distributors of the drugs.

“I commend the immediate response by the police in arresting the duo and preventing the distribution of drugs which were destined to destruct the future and lives of the citizens of our province especially the youth. Police will always be on high alert to ensure that drug dealers are removed from the society” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.

The suspects will appear in Northam Magistrate court tomorrow on Monday 27 March 2023 facing charges of dealing and possession of drugs.

Police investigations are continuing.
