On Sunday 26 March 2023, at about 11:15 Hermanus SAPS members were patrolling in Zwelihle when they received information about a shooting in progress.
They responded to the complaint and community members assisted in the apprehension of two suspects aged 22 and 31 found to be in possession of two firearms and a gas pistol.
A case of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition without a valid licence is investigated. The serial numbers were verified and owners will be contacted. Firearms will be send for ballistic testing to determine if it was used in any other crimes.
In an unrelated matter, Operation Restore conducted a number of successful operations. On Sunday 26 March 2023, members of Operation Restore acted on information of a premises used for illegal drug activities. The house situated at Endlovini informal location Lingelethu West where there was a female occupant inside the house. The premises was searched and drugs were found inside the house being 85 small sachets of Tik, 138 mandrax tablets, an undisclosed amount of cash and a small scale.
The suspect will be charged for dealing in drugs and will appear in the Khayelitsha Court soon.
The same day members attached to Operation Restore were tasked to combat crime in the Delft area. While patrolling Roosendal Avenue, a suspicious looking male saw them and started running. Members gave chase and caught him further down the road and upon searching him they found him in possession of a black imitation firearm. He could not give reasonable explanation for being in possession of it and was arrested for possession of an imitation firearm. He will appear in the Bellville Magistrates court once charged.
Furthermore three suspects were arrested by Lwandle police on the same day, soon after they have allegedly murdered a 29-year-old man in Lwandle earlier in the day on 26 March 2023.
Lwandle Police were informed of the body by a passer-by and they immediately proceeded to the crime scene. On their arrival, members found a body of a man lying down in pool of blood at the corner of Thukumbela and Vulindlela Road, Greenfield. The man had head injuries and stab wounds on the body.
Police swiftly reacted by commencing with their investigation, searching for the suspects involved while a murder case was registered. The members followed up on the information received of the four suspects who had an argument with the victim, apparently assaulted him with bricks and then stabbed him with knifes.
Three suspects aged between 20 and 22 were arrested at different addresses. They will all appear in the Strand Magistrate court soon after being charged accordingly. Police are continuing the search for another accomplice who is still at large.
