Illegal miners arrested, Burgersfort

Concerted efforts by Police in Limpopo to rid the Province of all forms of illegal mining activities paid off following the arrest of two illegal miners aged 20 and 22 by members of Provincial Illegal Mining Task Team as well as the Provincial Organised Crime Unit on Sunday, 9 April 2023 at around 10:30 in Winterveld Farm, Burgersfort policing area.

According to reports, the Police members were engaged in disruptive operation at the Mahlakweng village targeting the illegal mining, when they found a number of people conducting illegal mining activities.

Upon noticing the Police, the illegal miners immediately dispersed to different directions.

Two suspects were arrested for illegal mining and for being illegal immigrants as they failed to produce documents to be in the Country.

During the arrest Police seized 5x jackhammers, 5x generators, 2x shades and 2x black electric extensions.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest and appreciated the Police for their tireless efforts in protecting the special minerals of this Province.

The arrested suspects will appear before Burgersfort Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of illegal mining and illegal immigrants.
