Smuggler nabbed with R46k worth of dagga, Schoemansdal

A 50-year-old male suspect has been arrested by members of Border Policing from Jeppes Reef.

He was cornered at Matsamo Plaza in Schoemansdal on the morning of 16 April 2023, at around 07:45 after being allegedly found smuggling dagga to the value of about R46077-02.

According to information, the members were in the vicinity when they noticed a suspicious man getting inside a kombi, carrying a huge plastic bag.

The men and women in Blue became curious and approached him whereby a search was conducted. It was during this period when police discovered a large volume of dagga which was wrapped with some cello tape and weighing at 11,066 kilograms in his possession.

The said dagga was concealed inside a big plastic bag and the suspect was arrested as well as charged for dealing in dagga.

The man is a South African citizen and he is expected to appear in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court at Tonga on Monday 17 April 2023 facing the said charge.

Meanwhile the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has welcomed the arrest and applauded members for their relentless efforts in tackling the general trafficking of drugs in the province.
