KwaMashu hostel murder, accused handed life sentence

The Ntuzuma Regional Court has handed down a life imprisonment and an additional 5 year sentence to Sibonelo Mbhekiseni Ngcobo (39) after finding him guilty of murder and attempted murder which he committed in KwaMashu hostel three years ago.

On 16 December 2019, Mandla Mncwango, who was aged 28 years at that time, was in the company of his friends at a residence in Musa Road.

They were then approached by the accused who opened fire at them, fatally wounding Mandla Mncwango and others were injured. A case of murder and attempted murder was opened for further investigation, which led to arrest of the convict.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and made several court appearances until he was convicted and sentenced on Tuesday, 18 April 2023.
