A 31-year-old Standerton murder suspect who has been on the run for more than a month was finally arrested. The suspect was arrested after a properly coordinated investigation between Standerton detectives and members of Gauteng provincial office.
According to information, the suspect shot and killed his female friend in Standerton Ext 6. He immediately fled the scene without trace.
Investigation was launched which revealed that the suspect is in hiding in Gauteng province which prompted Standerton police to work hands and gloves with their counterparts in Gauteng provincial office to trace the suspect.
Preliminary investigation revealed that on the night of the incident, the suspect arrived home with another female friend at about 01:30 whilst the victim was also in the house.
It is alleged that misunderstanding sparked between the suspect and the victim which ended up in cold blood murder when the victim was fatally shot.
After Gauteng police were brought on board, the suspect’s movement was closely monitored and information was received that the suspect was planning to vacate Gauteng province.
Members of Standerton detectives and their Gauteng counterparts strategically set up an operation and nabbed the suspect at De Hoek toll plaza on Saturday 22 April 2023, at about 19:30.
Beside the murder charge, the suspect was also found in possession of stolen vehicle which was reported stolen at Johannesburg Central police station and also an unlicensed firearm was found in his possession.
The Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga SAPS Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela commended members from both provinces for the job well done. “There is power in working together, the joint venture finally paid off and the suspect will now be judged accordingly,” concluded the General.
